A Review of our Woodland Walk

We were so pleased with this review of our woodland walk.

A great opportunity for children to run around

The new nature-themed fairy trail, nestled in local woodland at Earnshaws Fencing Centre, Midgley, launched in March 2023 and is funded by Wakefield Council Culture Grants.

This is a great FREE activity for families to discover nature in the local environment. Each fairy on the trail represents a different species which lives in the woodland, and their fairy wings have been individually designed and created by local artist, Lanson Moore. The hidden fairies also have many top tips and interesting facts to find along the way.

A great opportunity for children to run around, explore and learn more about the nature on their doorstep.

Promise to Nature

Visitors can pick up their trail activity sheet and clipboard from the Little Acorn Café which will guide them around the trail. At the end, next to the Little Acorn Café, there is a special ‘fairies post box’ for visitors to send their ‘Promise to Nature’ and on returning your clipboard to the Little Acorn the children will be given a lollipop free of charge!

And it’s not just the new fairies in the woodland to be discovered, there is also the ‘Follow the Footprints’ trail, again with activity sheets which can be collected from the Little Acorn.

In addition to the trails there is also a fort, with the playhouses and sand pit at the entrance to the main site.

Local artist

Local artist, Lanson Moore also has a mini art studio in one of the outhouses on display, where visitors can take a rest and look a the artwork on display.

Also onsite, are amazing deals on outdoor furniture, accessories and many other gardening items.

There is disabled access around the site, including customer toilets.

The Little Acorn serves a good variety of cold and hot drinks and snacks.

Parking is free and the trail can be accessed 7 days a week during Earnshaws’ opening hours”.
