The Woodland Trust have crowned Scotland's Skipinnish Oak as the UK’s Tree of the Year!
This year’s contest celebrated breathtaking oaks from across the UK, each with their own fascinating history – magnificent natural monuments that play an integral role in our nation’s story. Over 18,000 people took part in this year’s vote to crown the UK’s Tree of the Year.
Partially named after the renowned Scottish Celtic band, Scotland’s Skipinnish Oak is 1,000 years old and stands proud amid a dark spruce plantation in the heart of Lochaber, Scotland. This magnificent oak won the title of Tree of the Year with 21% of the vote!
Not only is the Skipinnish Oak one of the largest oaks in the region, it also plays a vital part in the local ecosystem – hosting a number of lichens, including the Black-eyed Susan, which is rarely found outside the west of Scotland.
As this year’s winner, the Skipinnish Oak will now go on to represent the UK in the European Tree of the Year 2025 contest!
