Our kiln-dried hardwood firewood logs have a moisture content as low as 16%. This is well below the new regulatory minimum limit of 20% moisture content. This means our kiln-dried firewood is ready to burn on wood burners and open fires.
Furthermore, our kiln-dried firewood is sustainably sourced.
The government introduced regulations in May 2021, covering the way we are allowed to sell firewood. This is because research shows a clear connection between burning wet wood and poor air quality. It has been shown that emissions from wet wood are around five times higher than emissions from burning firewood with a moisture content of 20% or lower.
Sourcing your ready to burn kiln dried firewood from Earnshaws ensures that you will be burning fuel that complies with the regulations, contributing to better air quality and benefiting from:
• Lower environmental impacts
• Higher heat output
• Easier fire lighting
• Reduced smoking
• Fewer soot deposits on your stove door
• Help the UK achieve its air pollution targets.
Earnshaw’s air-dried firewood requires further seasoning before it is dry enough to be considered ready to burn. We recommend storing our partially seasoned firewood logs for between 12 to 18 months, in a purpose-designed log store. If in doubt about whether the storage period has sufficiently lowered the moisture content of your softwood and hardwood logs, use a moisture metre to make certain they have a moisture content below 20%, which means that they are ready to burn.
